WESTMINSTER — One month after adding 16 treatment beds, Recovery Centers of America has been quickly able to fill those beds with patients struggling with drugs and alcohol abuse, said Chief Executive Officer Michael Stuart.

The additional beds are part of RCA’s expansion efforts to help meet demand, he said.

“We continue to see an increase in admissions from the local area, and this expansion enables us to facilitate immediate treatment for those who need our help,” Stuart said in a statement.

This brings the center’s number of clinical support services beds from 32 to 48.

With the additional beds, RCA can provide separate gender units and offer gender-specific programming, Stuart said.

The original 32-bed clinical support services unit has become a male unit, according to Stuart.

To accommodate the new beds, the center built a 12,000 square-foot wing, he said.

The state’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Services approved licensing for the facility to open the new wing.

Liz Divito, a spokeswoman for the center, said RCA will go through the licensing process with the state to add more detox beds.

There are currently 16 detox beds at RCA.

In total, the center has 64 treatment beds for clinical support and detox services.
