How to Measure and Report Success in Addiction Treatment was the subject of a recent blog by RCA Chief Science Officer Dr. Deni Carise published in in Addiction Professional. In the blog, Dr. Carise asks why addiction treatment is judged using a different standard than with other chronic diseases. “[If] (t)he patient has a recurrence of high blood pressure, their cancer returns, or they’ve had a blood sugar episode… few would say the person “relapsed,” “failed” at treatment, or argue that ineffective treatment was to blame, especially if there were other benefits during that time such as a decrease in the number of days with high blood sugar, blood pressure, etc.”
