An addiction recovery center in Westminster has expanded its number of beds to 64, including a 16-bed increase in its clinical support services beds and the hiring of 32 new employees.

The Recovery Centers of America announced the expansion of its Westminster location Thursday to meet the increasing number of New Englanders struggling with substance abuse.

The 16 new beds are located on the first floor of a 12,000-square-foot addition to provide complete gender separation and facilitate gender-specific programming and protocols.

The facility’s original 32-bed clinical support services area is now an all-male unit, and the remaining 16 beds will be used to acute treatment services patients.

In a statement, RCA Westminster CEO MIke Stuart said the expansion is due to the increased demand for inpatient drug and alcohol treatment, with some addicts being turned away due to a lack of available beds.

“RCA’s mission has always been to help as many patients as possible on their journey to recovery,” Stuart said. “Our 16 additional beds allow us to provide treatment to the people here in our community that desperately need our help.”
